OUR HISTORY

NEW HAVEN PERSONAL INJURY & AUTO ACCIDENT VICTIMS HAVE BEEN REPRESENTED BY OUR FIRM FOR GENERATIONS

The roots of the LoRicco Law Firm can be traced to the early Italian immigrant section of New Haven as it existed in the 1930s. The son of a local dress manufacturer, Richard LoRicco Sr. grew up among the hard-working people in his father’s shop. It was during this era that the founding principles of the firm were formed as young LoRicco witnessed the cruelty that could befall the honest person when left unprotected against the interests of the powerful.

LESSONS LEARNED FROM COMMUNITY AND FAMILY

Growing up in a community of first- and second-generation immigrants teaches many lessons. The ideals of hard work, self-sacrifice, community and family are all intertwined. Sadly, it also revealed those who are economically challenged and less educated run the greatest risks of being victimized by those in power. As a recent graduate of Providence College, Richard LoRicco Sr. declined the opportunity to enter the family manufacturing business and chose instead to attend Georgetown Law School with an eye toward returning home to champion the people, friends and family of his community.

SERVICE TO COMMUNITY AND COUNTRY BEFORE SELF

Armed with a freshly minted law degree and the desire to put service before self, Richard LoRicco Sr. entered into the United States Armed Services where he found himself stationed in the German Section of the European Theatre. At the time of LoRicco’s arrival in Germany, Nikita Khrushchev bestowed upon the free world the Soviet Union’s Berlin Ultimatum, which (threateningly) gave the allies six months to vacate West Berlin. While serving inside the flashpoint at the height of the cold war, LoRicco was advocating in military courts and special tribunals.

FROM MILITARY COURTS TO VICTIMS’ ADVOCATE

The Franklin Street fire of 1957 is considered the greatest tragedy to ever befall New Haven. Many victims, including the injured, the 15 who died and their surviving families, were workers in the second floor LoRicco dress shop, which caught fire after the blaze originated on the first floor in a steel fabrication factory. It was the pain of seeing firsthand the suffering of those closest to him, coupled with the inability to have anyone held sufficiently responsible, that ultimately led to the ideals behind the founding of the LoRicco Law Firm as a sword and shield against the interest of big business.
