Three Common Products That May Present Personal Injury Risk
by AdminAugust 21st, 2023
When you go to the store or shop online you should have a reasonable expectation that the products you buy have been tested and follow certain safety guidelines. You likely expect that you will be able to use or consume these products without the danger of becoming injured and having to file a New Haven personal injury claim. That would be a reasonable expectation, but unfortunately that is not always the reality that we are faced with when we bring these products into our homes. The vast majority of products that you purchase will present no problems to you, but there are situations where products are either defective or did not pass safety inspections and somehow make it on to store shelves anyway. In these cases you could be using a product that you maintain a reasonable level of confidence in and they could become dangerous very quickly. While there Read the full article…
Impaired Driver Takes Pedestrian’s Life
by AdminAugust 18th, 2023
An incident occurred on the Stratford/Bridgeport lines that involved an impaired driver who struck a pedestrian in broad daylight. After the incident, the pedestrian was killed and the family had to be notified while the driver was taken into custody and charged with a number of violations including driving while impaired. Incidents like this happen far too often and are heartbreaking. It is critical that all parties involved take action to reduce the incidents of impaired driving and keep all who are sharing the road safe when driving or walking through the area. While this incident didn’t happen in the Elm City it is a good reminder that with a vibrant downtown scene and many restaurants and bars in the area, a New Haven auto accident similar to this incident could easily occur and lead to the same tragic outcome. While incidents like the one described in Bridgeport can happen Read the full article…
Work Zone Cameras Are Slowing Drivers Down
by AdminAugust 13th, 2023
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) started a pilot program back in April that is aiming to slow drivers down as they pass through construction work zones. The program has cameras that are mounted on SUVs at the work sites and if a driver is caught by the camera speeding they are mailed a warning and then if it happens again a citation is sent out to the driver of that vehicle. Safety experts suggest that a program like this is not designed to “catch” people in the act or as a gotcha moment, but rather to encourage slower speeds in work zones where many accidents occur and as is the case with most accidents the faster a car is moving, the deadlier the accident may be. The pilot program does not include any work zones in our area, so there will be limited impact on any New Haven auto Read the full article…
Underage Rider Involved In Motorcycle Accident
by AdminAugust 11th, 2023
A teenage motorcycle driver was traveling on Walnut St. in Manchester, CT recently when a collision occurred between the motorcycle and another vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle and the driver of the motorcycle are both expected to survive from the injuries that they sustained, but the motorcycle rider was transported to Connecticut Children’s Hospital for treatment. While this incident ended with limited injuries and no deaths, not all New Haven motorcycle accidents end on such a positive note. These incidents can be quite dangerous and lead to significant injuries and in some cases death. The safety of motorcycle riders is significantly at risk if the rules of the road are not followed and accidents occur. That is why it is so critical for all drivers, but especially motorcycle owners, to understand the rules of the road and how to remain safe when riding on two wheels. In the Read the full article…
Fairfield Pedestrian Deaths Lead To Calls For Greater Infrastructure Focus
by AdminAugust 9th, 2023
The state of Connecticut has been experiencing an epidemic of pedestrian related fatalities over the past two years and many municipalities, including New Haven are working on finding ways to fix the infrastructure of their cities and towns to address these issues. After a second pedestrian related fatality in Fairfield recently, the city is joining the list of communities to shine a spotlight on infrastructure needs that can address these challenges. When a New Haven pedestrian accident occurs and someone is killed it can send shock waves throughout the city and alarm bells will ring for those that write the laws in the Elm City. Long before the recent uptick in pedestrian fatalities, Connecticut instituted a “Complete Streets” law that required cities and towns to take pedestrian safety and the safety of those riding public transportation into account when developing new streets and intersections. Even with the 2009 law enacted, Read the full article…
Pedestrian Killed By Police Officer: Poor Infrastructure Cited
by AdminAugust 5th, 2023
It was still daylight out when a pedestrian was struck and killed by a police officer in Stamford recently. The incident, which is currently being investigated by the Connecticut State Police is just another in a long line of these types of accidents that are involving pedestrians and cars along our streets. We have written here about it before that this is becoming an epidemic throughout the state of Connecticut and state safety officials are becoming more and more concerned as these incidents pile up. Among the reasons why New Haven pedestrian accidents continue to occur are the bad habits of both drivers and pedestrians alike. Drivers are driving at a higher speed than ever before which is leading to more and more of these incidents. Pedestrians are walking, riding and running while being distracted by their phones and while using headphones which make them significantly less aware of their Read the full article…
