Is Your Car Dangerous? Here Are The Top 10 Deadliest Cars On The Road

There are no cars that are completely immune from a New Haven auto accident that leads to the death of the driver or a passenger in the vehicle. If you could invent a crash proof vehicle, you would make a whole lot of money. Unfortunately it is not a thing that exists. It is for this reason that there is a need for safety officials to report out on which cars present the greatest risks to drivers.

In this case it is the Insurance Institute For Highway Safety (IIHS) who looks at which vehicles have the most amount of deaths per 1 million registered vehicles. The most recent data looks at vehicles in the 2020 model year and concludes that often it is the smaller vehicles with the highest horsepower that are the deadliest to drive.

The study, which the IIHS conducts every three years, found that on average the vehicles with the highest death rates experience roughly 38 deaths for every million registered vehicles. While this may not seem like a huge number, considering it is an average, it is quite concerning to safety officials who certainly are working towards eliminating motor vehicle deaths all together. The study concluded the following list of the deadliest vehicles on the road today;

1.) Mitsubishi Mirage G4 which it was reported was involved in 205 deaths.

2.) Mitsubishi Mirage Hatchback following closely behind with 183 deaths.

3.) The Dodge Challenger reported 154 deaths in the study.

4.) Those driving a Hyundai Accent reportedly were involved in accidents that led to 152 deaths.

5.) Rounding out the top 5 was the Chevrolet Spark with 151 deaths.

Other vehicles on the list included the Kia Rio Sedan, Dodge Charger Hemi 2WD, Chevy Camaro Convertible, Nissan Altima and the Kia Forte, all of which accounted for deaths of 100 or more in accidents that involved these vehicles.

The study found an interesting correlation between the size of the vehicles it looked at as well. While smaller vehicles, like the ones listed above, were involved in auto accidents that left the driver dead, larger vehicles were involved in more crashes that left the driver with minor injuries and others involved in the accident in a more precarious situation. It stands to reason that larger vehicles are actually deadlier then those smaller vehicles, they just put others at risk and are not as deadly to the driver of the vehicle themselves.

When thinking about what vehicle you would like to drive it is important to understand the safety features and risks of driving the vehicle you choose. If a situation were to arise and you were to be involved in a New Haven auto accident you would want to know that you are putting yourself in the safest possible position based on the vehicle you have chosen.
