5 Things To Do To Prepare For Your Interstate Travel

Governor Lamont has announced that the nearly year long travel ban between Connecticut and other states is about to be lifted, giving you and your loved ones the flexibility to drive out of state and go places you haven’t been in months.  Whether you’re headed up north for some spring skiing or into New York City to see the sights, you’ll want to prepare for your road trip so you can ensure that you arrive at your destination safely.

If you don’t prepare you could be setting yourself up for a New Haven auto accident and that would certainly dampen the excitement of getting out of the state for the first time in a long time.

No matter where you’re heading, before you hit the road you will want to address some of these things before you go so you don’t find yourself having issues on the way to your destination;

  1. Properly inflate your tires.  The spring can be a challenging time to get the inflation level correct, but making sure you get it right will protect you from dangerous outcomes.
  2. Check your brake lights.  It may have been a while since the last time you drove your car a long distance and having a brake light out can be dangerous.
  3. Top off all your fluids.  If your fluids aren’t properly filled you can get stuck on the side of the road which could lead to greater issues then just a broken down car.
  4. Ensure that your seat belts are working properly.  A car that has been sitting can have all sorts of things go wrong and if you don’t have fully functional seat belts an accident could turn into something deadly.
  5. Prepare an emergency kit.  If you don’t have one already this will serve you well if you do get into a New Haven auto accident or if you break down on the side of the road.  Either way, a good emergency kit can save your life.

Being prepared takes a little extra time, but it can be the difference between a safe and fun trip outside of the state and not making it home in one piece.  With the new guidance on travel from the Governor there may be significantly more cars on the road and that could have devastating impacts, but if you take the proper precautions and maintain your car properly you will find that you have no problems making it to your destination.
