Are New Haven Cyclists Better Drivers Than Motorists?

A new study out of the UK  shows that cyclists who drive are better drivers than those motorists who do not bicycle. An insurance firm reported this information from their data analysis. Cyclists make less than half the number of insurance claims as non-cyclists. In fact, 13% of the firm’s insured drivers make at least one claim per year, but this fell to 6% for cyclists who were insured on the firm’s cyclist-driver policy.

We may see more cyclists on the road and they have the same rights and must follow the same rules as cars and trucks. Connecticut law states that motor vehicles must provide 3 feet of safe distance when passing a moving bicycle.
