Avoiding A New Haven Auto Accident After A Big Game
September 15, 2023It’s football season and backyards and living rooms are buzzing with people cheering on their favorite team (we won’t ask which one you root for here.) Whether you’re cheering on your team among friends at their homes or out at a local sports bar you are undoubtedly enjoying the game with a nice food spread and maybe a few cold ones and that is why a big game can lead you into a situation where you are put at risk of being impaired while you’re driving and getting into a New Have auto accident.
While we can’t guarantee a win for your team each and every Sunday, we can certainly guarantee one thing, if you are driving impaired you will likely get pulled over and cited OR you may get into an accident that could lead to injury and property damage for you. That’s one penalty you do not want to see after you’ve spent the whole afternoon or evening rooting for your team to make all the right plays.
The good news is that you don’t have to forgo the ice cold brews while you’re watching the game on Sunday just so you can get home safely after the game. We would never suggest such a thing. However, we do want to make sure that while you’re enjoying the game and drinking with your friends you are doing it responsibilty.
One of the best and safest things you can do if you’re choosing to drink while watching the game is to look to your left and look to your right to find a friend who is willing to be your designated driver. The football season is many weeks long and so you can share the duties of being a designated driver between you and your buddies to make sure that everyone gets a chance to enjoy the game with a few beers while also ensuring that everyone gets home safely. A designated driver is your best bet to keep everyone safe, but it is not the only way.
Another option that requires a very small amount of thinking ahead, but can be the difference between an accident and arriving safely is to make a plan to take public transportation to and from your destination. If you can hop on a bus and get to where you need to be you can do so safely and without requiring you or any of your friends to shut the tap off at a certain point in the game. This will require that you peek at the bus schedule before you head to and from the place you’ll be watching the game, but this way of avoiding the need to have a designated driver can be the cheapest and easiest way in the end.
If you don’t like the idea of a designated driver or a ride on the bus, you should use a ride share service like Uber to get you home safely. Just pop the app on your phone before the game starts and when the final play wraps up you can tap the app and get a ride from door to door without much trouble. This is the more expensive way to get home safely, but really what is the expense of it if you are protecting yourself from getting injured and causing any other property damage as well.
There are two things that can ruin your enjoyment of watching a game on Saturday or Sunday. The first, a loss by your favorite team and despite your superstitions there is nothing you can do about that one. The second, an injury or worse that is caused when you get into a New Haven auto accident because you are driving while under the influence of alcohol. The good news is that this one is entirely preventable and you have success in your hands. Be responsible and enjoy the game the way you want, while also getting yourself and your loved ones home safely.
