The temperatures are dropping but there are still quite a few days left where you can take your motorcycle out for a ride.  The colder weather means some conditions are going to get a little less favorable like roads that are covered with fallen leaves and the possibility of some icy conditions, but overall this time of year is a perfect time to get out and ride.

As is the case with most things this time of year when riding your motorcycle you’ll need to adjust your wardrobe so you can do your best to avoid a New Haven motorcycle accident.  You may not give too much thought to the clothes you’re wearing when riding your motorcycle, but they can have a drastic impact on your safety and comfort while out for a ride.

Here is how you should dress for the perfect autumn ride:

  1. Always wear a helmet and in the fall months you may want to make it a full face helmet so you don’t lose heat out of the top or front of the helmet.  This can also protect your face from wind burn.
  2. Layers are a must, but you’ll need to make sure they are form fitting like thermals so that they are not flapping in the breeze.
  3. Ride with gloves.  While gloves may not always be a part of your riding wardrobe as the weather gets colder the likelihood that your hands are going to take a beating in the lower temperatures rises.
  4. Consider getting weatherproof gear.  It is more likely in the fall and winter that you will get caught out in a rainstorm.  If you’re riding a rainstorm pops up you will want to be able to stay dry while continuing to ride.

Clothes may not be the first thing you think about when working to keep yourself safe from a New Haven motorcycle accident, but they should be on your list of safety checks.  When you’re uncomfortable and riding you are much more likely to make a mistake and get yourself into a serious accident.  Also, if you do find yourself falling off your bike the type of clothing that you’re wearing will have an impact on whether or not your injury is severe.

Checking out the fall foliage while riding a motorcycle is one of the most enjoyable and exhilarating things you can do in New England, however it also comes with it’s inherent dangers.  If you’ve been injured as a result of a motorcycle accident you may need to speak with an attorney who can review your case.  One of our experienced attorneys would be happy to speak with you about your injuries and how we can help protect your long-term interests.
