As the sunset shifts to be earlier and earlier, kids will still be out on the New Haven streets, but now it will be darker.  Motorists need to be extra cautious especially around dusk in order to avoid getting into a New Haven bike accident.

A recent accident in Putnam, Connecticut involved a 13-year old who is now facing life threatening injuries.  This type of accident is preventable if both the driver of the vehicle and the children riding their bicycles follow some key steps to protect themselves.  We’ll start with the driver who needs to keep the following in mind:

  1. Slow down at all intersections.  Even if there are no signs or lights at an intersection, it is with the safety of all in mind that you should slow down through any and all intersections.
  2. Drive with your lights on, especially at dusk.
  3. Drive slowly in densely populated neighborhoods where kids may be out riding their bikes.
  4. If you can’t see around a corner, come to a complete stop and then inch around the corner.

If you are driving at any time, but especially at dusk, you should be following these simple guidelines to help avoid a New Haven bike accident.  If you or a loved one were involved in this type of accident, please contact our office and our attorneys will review your case.
