Got a New Haven Personal Injury? There Is New Back Pain Protocol

With the entire nation facing an opioid epidemic, the American College of Physicians has released new guidelines on how to treat those who suffer from back pain. New Haven auto accidents slip and fall injuries, and New Haven workers’ compensation injuries can all result in back pain that can range from temporary to debilitating.

For pain lasting less than three months, the new recommendation is to treat patients with heat wraps, spinal manipulation, acupuncture, and massage. Recommendation guidelines stress the importance of avoiding narcotic prescriptions for pain management during this time frame.

When back pain lasts longer than three months, strengthening and stretching exercises are recommended along with yoga and tai chi. If these methods fail, anti-inflammatory medications should be considered first then nerve-dulling medications.
