It’s Pothole Season Let The State Know About It

Every year, right around this time, the state of Connecticut experiences our favorite time of the year, pothole season.  Potholes are more then a nuisance though they are a safety hazard that could have impacts on our ability to avoid a New Haven auto accident.  Potholes can be damaging to your car and can also cause you to swerve and unexpectedly end up in the lane next to yours that may displace the driver in that lane and cause havoc.

There is good news about potholes though, the state of Connecticut has setup a website where you can report potholes on all state roads.  You can access it here.  The service allows drivers to report any problem that they find on the road to the state Department of Transportation (DOT) and with accurate information expedite the process of getting that issue taken care of in a timely manner.

But wait, there is more good news, if you’re in the city of New Haven you can also report potholes found throughout the city on it’s roads by using this website or the See, Click, Fix app on your mobile phone.  The app and website work similarly to the state’s portal and will get you action on any pothole you come across more quickly then just sitting around complaining about it.

So, you have options now as to what to do when you come across a pothole.  Once you’ve reported it, you will still need to deal with it until it is fixed so if you do approach a pothole during any season you will want to take the following precautions to keep your care from any damage and you from any injury;

1.) Slow down.  Hitting a pothole at full speed will damage your car and may throw your vehicle off it’s course which could cause an accident.

2.) Safely pull over, out of the way of the pothole and pass in the other lane.  This may require that you come to a complete stop and wait for traffic to pass, but it will be worth it to save you from injury or car damage.

3.) Take a different route.  While this may be the most cumbersome way to handle a pothole, when you approach a pothole that is large it may be your best move to keep you and your car safe.

Nobody likes pothole season, but with these tools and a couple of simple steps to avoid potholes all together you can keep your car from getting damaged and reduce your risk of getting into a New Haven auto accident that may lead to an injury.
