This time of year is a tricky one to be out walking in the morning.  With temperatures constantly in flux there are so many dangers of a New Haven slip and fall accidents.  At night the temperatures have a tendency to drop dramatically and can cause ice to form overnight that wasn’t there the day before.  The water that is on the road in the afternoon will turn to dangerous ice in the morning and cause a really precarious situation.

Here are a few things to avoid in the morning to make sure you remain safe from the ever growing danger of black ice in the early morning hours;

  1. Snow banks.  Walking near snow banks can be dangerous because if that snow was melting during the day and then refroze overnight there can be plenty of ice that could be dangerous to you.
  2. Hills.  When ice and snow are melting during the day they run down hills and cause a stream of water that can then freeze overnight and turn into a hazard.
  3. Stairs.  Water that melts throughout the day will freeze on stairs at night which are typically good places for water to puddle and turn into ice overnight.  Ice on stairs is one of the most dangerous places you can come into contact with ice, slipping down stairs can be extremely dangerous.
  4. Sidewalks.  Water can form in cracks and bumps on a sidewalk and freeze overnight turning into a hazard on an otherwise passable area.

When late winter and early spring temperatures are fluctuating so much it can lead to very dangerous circumstances.  Not only are there dangers lurking out there you may also become complacent because the weather is a little nicer and that could lead to being less careful and could cause a New Haven slip and fall accident.
