When the clock struck midnight on July 1, several new laws went into effect in the State of Connecticut. Below are some highlights:

  1. Police officers, parole officers, and firefighters are now eligible to receive benefits for post traumatic stress disorder caused by certain qualifying events which include seeing a deceased minor, someone’s death, and a traumatic injury that results in the loss of someone’s body part. 
  2. Students will now be allowed to apply their own sunscreen during school hours prior to engaging in outdoor activities.
  3. Property tax abatement for certain first responders increased from $1,000 to $1,500.
