When the clock struck midnight on July 1, several new laws went into effect in the State of Connecticut. Below are some highlights:
- Police officers, parole officers, and firefighters are now eligible to receive benefits for post traumatic stress disorder caused by certain qualifying events which include seeing a deceased minor, someone’s death, and a traumatic injury that results in the loss of someone’s body part.
- Students will now be allowed to apply their own sunscreen during school hours prior to engaging in outdoor activities.
- Property tax abatement for certain first responders increased from $1,000 to $1,500.
