The summer months are some of the most fun months to ride your motorcycle, especially here on the shoreline where there are plenty of rides that can offer incredible scenery and breathtaking views.  It’s so important that when you’re enjoying these types of rides you are also being safe as you do it so you can avoid a New Haven motorcycle accident.

If you’re riding with the appropriate safety gear on including a helmet and long, leather, clothing to help protect your skin from a serious injury from an accident you may be also experiencing some other feelings and that is being incredible hot.  Summer months can be exhilerating to ride your bike during, but they can also be incredibly hot and lead you to issues like heat exhaustion.  It might not be the first thing that pops to mind when you’re thinking of being on your motorcycle during the summer months, but it is certainly a danger that can creep up on you fast and cause serious problems for you.

So how can you avoid overheating when you are riding?  Here are some things you can do to make sure that you are safe when riding during the summer months;

1.) Don’t avoid feelings of overheating.  It can be tempting to push through these feelings, but if they come on and you’re experiencing some symptoms you will want to pull over, take your helmet and some of your protective gear off and cool down for a little while.  Once you’ve been able to get cool, you can hop back on your bike and finish your ride.

2.) Drink lots of water.  Keeping yourself cool can be a challenge in the summer heat, but making sure you stay hydrated will go a long way to helping your body cool down and recover along the way.  If you can’t drink water while you’re riding, pull over and take a couple of sips to help yourself stay cool.

3.) Avoid riding in the middle of the day.  If you can plan your ride, you may want to plan it so you’re not riding in the dead heat of the summer sun.  Avoiding the hours between noon and 4p during the summer can help keep you out of the intense heat that can lead to heat exhaustion and cause you to get into an accident.

When you’re getting ready to go for a motorcycle ride you may not be thinking about heat exhaustion, but it’s a real issue when it comes to making your body feel weak and tired and if you’re riding your motorcycle when it comes on it can lead to a New Haven motorcycle accident.  Taking the above steps can help you avoid this type of feeling and keep you out of danger on your summer ride.
