New Haven Personal Injury: Back Pain Has New Treatment

New Haven auto accidents or other New Haven personal injuries can result in back pain that ranges from temporary or debilitating. With Connecticut and the entire nation facing an opioid epidemic, the American College of Physicians has released new guidelines on how to treat those who suffer from back pain.

For pain lasting less than three months, the new recommendation is to treat patients with heat wraps, spinal manipulation, acupuncture, and massage. Recommendation guidelines stress the importance of avoiding narcotic prescriptions for pain management during this time frame.

When back pain lasts longer than three months, strengthening and stretching exercises are recommended along with yoga and tai chi. If these methods fail, anti-inflammatory medications should be considered first then nerve-dulling medications.
