New Haven Personal Injury: The Most Common ER Visit Is Preventable

Most people visit the ER when the care needed for themselves or a loved one requires immediate medical attention. Chest pains, broken bones, New Haven auto accidents, severe burns, and gastrointestinal illness are among some of the reasons people get treated at their local emergency department. However, according to a New York City physician, the biggest reason people visit the emergency department is due to slip and fall accidents.

While many fall-related injuries are truly accidents, most head injuries sustained in falls are preventable by use of a helmet especially falls from a bicycle or motorcycle. Connecticut helmet law requires all bicyclists under the age of 16 to wear a helmet. Motorcyclists age 17 years and younger are required to wear a helmet while all motorcyclists are required to wear protective eye wear unless their bike is equipped with a windshield.
