Take These Steps To Avoid A DUI Or A New Haven Auto Accident

Getting yourself pulled over after you’ve been drinking or doing drugs can lead to an arrest for driving under the influence (DUI) or even worse, it could lead to a New Haven auto accident.  This time of year, especially as we approach the holiday season law enforcement will be on high alert for anyone who is showing signs of being intoxicated behind the wheel and they will be cracking down on these activities.

Given that December is National Drunk and Drugged Driving Awareness Month it seemed like a good time to go over some steps you can take to make sure you don’t end up being a statistic that gets reported out at the end of this month and instead arrive at your destination safely and celebrate with friends and family responsibly.  If you follow these steps you will limit or eliminate your chances of getting pulled over for a DUI or getting into an accident.

Step #1: Have a plan for any night out.  If you’re heading out to a party at a friends house or dinner at your family’s home for the holidays, make sure you have a plan on how you will get there and how you will get home safely.  If you have a plan ahead of time you will be one step ahead of everyone else and it will not be an added stress to your evening.

Step #2: Designate a driver.  The best and most reliable way you can get yourself home is by designating a driver who will not drink or do drugs at a holiday gathering.  Having one sober party in your group will eliminate the worry all together of how you will get home because that person will be responsible for being safe and getting you home without any incident.

Step #3: Use a ride share service.  If you failed to do #1 or #2, maybe #3 is more your speed.  This will require that you call an Uber to and from the get together.  This way you can drink or do drugs if you’d like, but you have a safe way to get home still, even if it may not be the best solution it is serviceable and you can go back and get your car the next day.

Step #4: Breathe easy and enjoy the holidays.  We know that drinking and maybe even smoking marijuana are a part of the holidays for many people, so relax knowing that you followed one of the above steps and you will be able to enjoy yourself without concern of getting into a New Haven auto accident or being pulled over for DUI.

This and every month, we here at Loricco Law Firm urge you to practice caution when mixing alcohol or drugs with driving to and from a destination.  Do not get behind the wheel of a car if you’re under the influence of any substance, it will save your life.  Have a safe and happy holiday season.
