Whether you’re a casual bike rider or an experienced cyclist you may find yourself out and about and in need of a repair or two on your bike so you can continue on your journey.  Without the proper tools to help you along the way you may be in for a New Haven bicycle accident that could cause you serious injury.  If you are not prepared for certain situations you could have a situation where your bike is not functioning properly and you could put yourself or someone around you at risk.

You may not be the type that prepares for a bike ride and just hops on your bike to go for a ride, but just as you might prepare an emergency kit for your car, you should also have one for your bike so you do not become stranded or injured while you’re out for a ride.  You may never need it and that would be a good thing, but if there comes a time when you do you’ll be glad that you had it prepared and you are safe and secure in knowing that you will be able to take care of whatever situation arises.

The tools you will need for your bike ride will vary greatly from those that you will need in an emergency kit for your car of course, but they are no less important for your well-being while you’re out for a ride.  These tools are compact and often easy to store in an under the seat bag that attaches to your saddle and will go virtually unnoticed while you’re riding so you can have peace of mind without any distractions while you’re enjoying your ride.

In order to keep yourself safe from injury on the road with your bike you will want to bring along the following tools;

1.) A set of compact and portable allen wrenches.  Many repairs and adjustments that need to be made on a bike can be done with a simple allen wrench and you will want to have a tool that includes all needed sizes.  You can purchase a “swiss army knife” like set of allen wrenches that will be a perfect fit for your under the saddle carrier.

2.) Tire levers.  Flat tires happen and you may need to change your tire along a ride.  Trying to do this by hand can be almost impossible, but with the right set of tire levers you’ll be able to do it quickly and easily and be back on your ride in no time.

3.) A spare tire tube.  This is just as important as the tire levers because if you don’t have a spare tube it will be very difficult to fix a flat while you’re on your ride.  These fold up nicely and are compact enough to fit in your carrier.

4.) A tire repair kit.  You may run into a situation where you get two flats in a ride or do not have a spare tube and you can try to fix your flat with a repair kit.

5.) A hand pump.  To inflate your tire you will need a pump that you can have on your bike at all times.  In most cases, these are too big to put in your carrier so you will need to attach it to your bike so you have it handy when the situation arises.

Having these tools on hand will not guarantee that you will be free from a New Haven bicycle accident when you are out riding, but they will certainly make it so that if you run into any issues you can repair them quickly and easily and you’ll be able to hop back on your bike to continue your ride.   When you pull over to fix whatever is wrong with your bike, make sure you do so carefully and you are out of the flow of traffic.
