Tell Me Something I Don’t Know – I-95 Is Ranked As Most Congested Road In The Country

If you commute day in and day out you know that I-95, at least in Connecticut is one of the most congested stretches of road you’ve likely ever driven on.  Even if you are only on it to get from one place to another, once in a while, you can feel the congestion and know that it is hard to predict whether you’ll be able to arrive at your destination on time if you take the highway.  Congestion can often lead to frustration and road rage which is often a factor in New Haven auto accidents among other dangerous behaviors behind the wheel.  So whether you’re commuting to work or just trying to get from one exit to another on any day of the week, you are in for a long haul when you jump on the Interstate in Connecticut.

So, living here in the Nutmeg State we really don’t need a report to tell us that congestion exists on this stretch of road, but now we have that report.  There is a transportation data company called INRIX that reports on the congestion that is infecting the roads of our country and they recently reported out that the stretch of road from the Sherwood Island exit in Westport to the Indian Field Road exit in Greenwich is the most congested stretch of road in the entire United States.  Yes, you read that right.  We beat out New York City and Los Angeles for this dubious distinction.  The stretch of I-95 southbound was listed as the #1 most congested corridor in the country while the same stretch of road, in the Northbound direction notched the third spot in this report.

The bad news doesn’t end there for our state with this report also including the similar stretch of road on the Merritt Parkway as the 7th and 8th most congested commutes in the country, this time it was Rt. 15 Northbound that was seventh and Rt. 15 Southbound that was 8th.  Four of the worst commutes in the country are right here in Connecticut, how lucky are we.

The top ten list include commutes in Los Angeles, Boston, New York and Chicago.

When traffic slows down due to a congested commute it often allows accidents to be a little less severe because speeds have slowed down quite a bit, but when a New Haven auto accident occurs in traffic it can sometimes just be a fender bender.
