The Best Time Of Day To Avoid A New Haven Bicycle Accident

There are some beautiful places to ride your bike in the city of New Haven and surrounding areas.  The summer is one of the best times to get out on your bike and ride, but if you’re not careful there are certain times of the day when the sun can be so aggressively hot and bright that it is more likely then others to cause you to get into a New Haven bicycle accident.

It is important to take into account the weather conditions when you’re thinking about going for a bike ride.  Some, who are more experienced riders then others, may be able to ride safely in most conditions, but if you’re a casual rider who only goes out for the occasional ride you may need to keep an eye on the weather conditions.  You will also want to monitor the time of day, always, but especially in the summer months.

What does the time of day have to do with safety when riding your bike?  Well, riding your bike when the sun is on it’s way down can create massive amounts of dangerous rays that will leave your eyes unable to monitor the road ahead of you.  You have experienced this if you commute in a car, when the sun is at a certain point in the sky you aren’t able to drive safely so traffic has a natural tendency to slow down.  This phenomenon occurs when you’re riding your bike too, but it can be even more dangerous.  If this sun is setting and is in your direct line of sight while you’re riding it can lead to a serious hazard and cause you to get injured.

You can keep yourself safe by keeping an eye on where the sun is in the sky when it’s time to get out and ride.  If you’re riding close to dusk and the sun is clearly descending onto the horizon you may want to wait 20-30 minutes before getting started on your ride.  You will still have plenty of daylight to get your ride in after the sun passes the point where it will be blinding to you as you ride, so from a safety standpoint it will be worth the wait before you head out for your evening ride.

An additional benefit to waiting for this time of night to go for a bike ride is that you won’t be as hot because once the sun goes down the temperatures tend to fall off and that can be good for your mental and physical health while you’re riding your bike.

Getting into a New Haven bicycle accident is not a particularly common occurrence for most riders, but it does happen and there are some steps you can take to keep yourself safe when you are riding your bike.  If you take steps to avoid certain times of day you will be setting yourself up for a successful ride every time.
