Three Articles Of Clothing You Should Have To Avoid A Connecticut Pedestrian Accident
February 18, 2022Whether you are out walking the streets of New Haven in the morning, afternoon, or night there are some things you should wear that will make you stand out and avoid a New Haven pedestrian accident. This may not be something you think about when you’re rushing out your door to get to your destination, but you should think about it now, when you’re sitting here reading the Internet, what you should wear to keep yourself safe when you are out for a walk.
Some people might think that you don’t need to wear anything special when you’re out for a walk in the morning or afternoon, but these times of day are equally important to make sure you are not headed out in some bland, black outfit that will blend in with the surroundings. As a pedestrian you will want to be seen by people who are driving cars and trucks, people who are on their bikes, and even other pedestrians. In a crowded city, you do not want to blend in, you want to stand out to stay safe. To that you will want to add the following things to your wardrobe so you can arrive at your destination safely.
- Reflective clothing or vest. There are options available to you to wear that don’t resemble a bright orange construction vest. In fact, just adding some reflective tape to your everyday jacket can be a positive step in the right direction in keeping you safe when you are out for a walk anytime of the day. You do not need to go overboard with the reflective clothing, but you should wear some so you can be seen more easily.
- Bright colored clothing. What you choose to wear when you head out of the house matters. Even if you want to wear clothes that are more understated when you arrive at your destination you will want to wear a brightly colored jacket or hat when you’re walking to your destination. Any article of clothing that can be seen from a distance in both daylight and night time will suffice.
- A flashlight on your person. While not an article of clothing, the flashlight is an essential part of any pedestrian’s wardrobe. Whether you have it buckled on your belt loops or you have it in your pocket easily accessible a flashlight can come in handy in the daytime or night time. If you are walking at dusk it may even be beneficial to use your flashlight to signal to on-coming traffic where you are walking.
You don’t have to spend hours and hours picking out the right clothes for going out for a walk to avoid a New Haven pedestrian accident. Just making a couple of tweaks to your wardrobe that you are already wearing can make a big difference and keep you safe from harm wherever you walk throughout the day and evening. No matter what you are wearing you will always need to remember to cross where there is signage or lights for you to cross and that will keep you safe each and every time.
