Understanding New Haven Personal Injuries & Fireworks Laws

With Independence Day right around the corner, smaller groups may be having fireworks displays to celebrate. Even private citizens sometimes set up their own displays. Fireworks in Connecticut are illegal with the exception of sparklers and fountains. Sparklers and fountains are non-explosive, non-aerial devices that contain less than 100 grams and 200 grams of pyrotechnic mixture, respectively.  They both can legally be used by those who are age 16 years and older.

• Follow all Connecticut fireworks laws
• Read all labels before igniting.
• Do not drink alcohol while lighting fireworks.
• Always have a bucket of water or hose nearby.
• Never reignite a “dud.”
• Wear safety glasses.
• Dispose of spent fireworks by wetting them with water and placing them in a metal trash container away from a building or combustible materials.
