There is no better way to explore the Elm City then on bicycle.  Riding through the streets of New Haven during the summer months can be exhilarating and convenient.  However, it also comes with pitfalls that could lead to injuries or worse.

As the summer weather heats up, riding through the city can become a dangerous activity if you are not staying hydrated.  The effects your body might feel from being dehydrated could lead to a New Haven bicycle accident which could leave you injured.  Drinking plenty of water while you are riding your bike is one of the best things you can do to keep yourself protected from the dangerous impacts of dehydration.

Not only should you keep yourself well hydrated, you should also have a good understanding of the signs of dehydration in the event that you are not keeping up on your water.  You will want to be able to spot the onset of dehydration before it becomes a real problem for you as you’re riding.

Here are a few signs of dehydration you should be on the lookout for;

1.) Sudden and strong feeling of thirst.

2.) A feeling of dizziness or light-headedness.

3.) A dry mouth or lips

4.) Rarely having to use the bathroom

These signs of dehydration can show up quickly and out of nowhere so you need to be prepared to take action if they come on as you’re riding your bike.  You might be able to imagine that if you start to feel dizzy or light headed that it could affect your ability to operate your bicycle in a safe way.

The best thing you can do when you’re seeing signs of dehydration is to pull your bike over to the side of the road or path you are on, find a place to sit down, and drink lots of water.  Do not return to your bike until you are feeling sufficiently better and more stable on your feet.  If you do not get to that point relatively quickly after drinking enough water, you may want to seek medical attention.

No matter how far or close by you are riding you should always travel with water to keep yourself hydrated.  If you do not maintain good hydration you may end up in a New Haven bicycle accident and be injured because you failed to drink enough water.
