20-Year-Old’s Death In New Haven Truck Accident Is An Important Reminder

Earlier this month, Michael Riley, a 20-year-old Wallingford resident was driving along I-95 when his car rear-ended a tractor trailer truck that was slowing down at a construction site.  The crash resulted in a fatality. This untimely New Haven auto accident is a reminder of the dangers of driving along such a heavily trafficked section of road through the Elm City.  Tractor trailer trucks are a very common site along the Interstate, especially through the city of New Haven and congestion often leads to dangerous road conditions. New Haven Pedestrian Accidents Could Increase Due To E-Scooter Ridership

E-scooter ridership is exploding throughout the country.  On the streets and sidewalks of the city you may have seen these new vehicles zooming along at high speeds.  While they are certainly an efficient and environmentally friendly way to get around town they also come with unique challenges for city officials and riders alike. The speed at which these vehicles travel is cause for concern that New Haven pedestrian accidents may increase.  Some municipalities are already limiting the speed at which these vehicles travel.  For instance, Washington D.C. is requiring that manufacturers limit the maximum speed of these vehicles to 10 MPH.  This is in an effort to slow them down and avoid serious injury or death for riders and pedestrians alike.  Many municipalities have limited where these vehicles can be ridden as well and prohibited them from being ridden on sidewalks. Fewer Drivers Has Meant Fewer New Haven Auto Accidents In 2020

From the start of 2020 the city of New Haven has seen significantly less traffic on our roads.  With businesses shuttered and employees working from home there have been fewer and fewer cars on the roads.  While businesses now open up there are still less cars due to the increased need for work from home options. While the streets were significantly less busy in the first six months of 2020 there have also been less New Haven auto accidents as reported on by the Connecticut Crash Data Repository.  This group, which studies the impacts of traffic on auto accidents and fatalities recently reported out that the decline of traffic on Connecticut roads starting in January led to far fewer accidents as well.
