The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released a report of data on self-driving and driver-assist technologies from the last month of collecting data and while there is information to be gleaned from the report, the incomplete data set does not give safety experts enough information to draw any conclusions from.  In fact, without information on the sample size or miles driven, it is impossible to know if these vehicles that employ these types of technology will be any more or less likely to get into a New Haven auto accident when they are fully operational on our roads. At 1:30 in the morning a Woodbridge police officer heard tires squealing and a crash that he couldn’t ignore.  He raced to the scene of the New Haven auto accident and did what law enforcement does, worked to protect the injured in the vehicle.  The driver, a Bridgeport man, was pulled out of the car before being rushed to Yale-New Haven hospital.  The officer, who pulled the driver out of the vehicle before the car caught on fire, was hailed as a hero.
