According to the most recent statistics from the National Safety Council, there has been a recent and consistent increase in fatalities as a result of bicycle accidents in the last 10 years. In the most recent year of record, 2019, bicycle accident fatalities were up 6%, but in the past 10 years they have risen 37% in the last 10 years. Recent Close Calls Remind Drivers To “Move Over” It’s The Law

Trucks And SUVs Far More Likely To Cause A New Haven Pedestrian Accident

In a recent study conducted by the Insurance Institute For Highway Safety (IIHS) it was found that trucks and SUVs were more likely to cause an injury in an accident with a pedestrian then those driving sedans. While the study didn’t look specifically at New Haven pedestrian accidents it can be reasonably concluded that this same finding would hold true in the Elm City as a general rule. All but six states in the United States have some law on the books that specifies how a driver should pass a cyclist when sharing the road. These laws are designed to limit the number of accidents between cars and bicycle riders by making sure there is adequate distance between the two, especially when a car is passing a bicycle.
