As a record number of people begin to head out for the Memorial Day weekend rush there is a greater risk of a New Haven auto accident.  With more cars on the road there is a greater risk that accidents will happen and you want to make sure you are prepared for an emergency if it arises.  We hope, of course, that one does not arise for you, but if it does we want to make sure you are prepared.

Roadside assistance is available from AAA who are the experts on breakdowns and what you should have in an emergency kit to ensure that your issue is mitigated before it turns into an even bigger emergency.  Here are the things that AAA recommends that you have in your emergency preparedness kit to keep yourself safe when you’re traveling this and every other weekend over the summer;

  1. Basic tools including screw drivers, allen wrenches, and a flashlight.  Making small repairs quickly can help turn an emergency into a problem solved.
  2. Reflective clothing.  You may not want to drive around with a reflective vest on, but you should have one in your emergency kit so that while you’re pulled off to the side of the road on-coming traffic can see you and avoid you.
  3. An air compressor.  Bringing a portable air compressor with you will allow you to fill your deflated tire without having to repair it right there on the side of a dangerous road.  An air compressor can fill a flat tire with enough air to hopefully get you to the next exit and get your tire repaired.
  4. A portable jumper kit.  If your battery dies you may be able to jumpstart it quickly with a jumper kit.  This will allow you to get to a auto repair center to address the root of the problem without being stranded.

Taking your safety seriously BEFORE you hit the road will allow you to have peace of mind if an emergency pops up.  Some of these basic things that you can prepare before you hit the road may help protect you from a New Haven auto accident and keep you safe no matter the emergency situation.
