New Haven Auto Accidents: Connecticut Graduated Licensing Is Working
August 3, 2018On August 1, 2008, the Connecticut lawmakers put into effect a set of laws affecting teen drivers. These tough laws, known as Graduated Driver’s License laws, have made an impact on teen driving.
Prior to these laws going into affect 10 years ago, New Haven auto accident attorneys saw an average of 18 teen auto crash deaths per year from 2001-2007. From 20019-2016, it dropped to just seven crashes. Compared to national statistics, it is a 40% drop in teen fatalities.
Graduated Driver’s License laws included a required two-hour safety class for both parents and teens, improved training requirements, extended curfew, passenger restrictions, increased penalties for violations, & other requirements aimed to increase safety among teen drivers.
