Three Things To Do Before Your Road Trip On This Memorial Day Weekend
May 28, 2021Today is National Road Trip Day which occurs the Friday before Memorial Day every year. Road trips are an age old American past time that are another wonderful signal of the start of summer. While they are exciting and energizing, they can also be scary and dangerous. It is important that if you are to have a successful road trip that you do some things to prepare yourself and your car so that you minimize the risk of a New Haven auto accident.
When heading out on a road trip there are some things you’re going to want to do and we’re not talking about making a killer playlist or packing the perfect amount of snacks to tide you over until you get to your destination. The things you need to do to prepare for your road trip are safety checks that will make sure your car is in tip top shape to encounter anything the open road has to throw at it. Here are three things you should do today before you head out on the road.
- Check your tire pressure. One of the things that causes a lot of accidents are either over or under-inflated tires. Before you head out on your road trip you should check the owners manual of your vehicle and fill your tires to the recommended tire pressure. Doing this will not only keep you safe, but it will also improve your gas mileage which will save you some money.
- Check your windshield wipers. This weekend is going to be a wet and wild weather weekend and so if your windshield wipers are not in good working order you may have trouble seeing out of your windshield as the rain pounds down on your car. Making sure your wipers are in top top shape will allow for good visibility no matter what the conditions are.
- Check your headlights and brake lights. When was the last time that you did a check to make sure your headlights and brake lights were both working? Now is as good a time to do it as ever. If a bulb is out it can be repaired pretty easily and it will save you some headaches while you’re on your trip.
Road trips are fun and can be one of the most exciting ways to spend a weekend during the summer, but they also come with their fair share of dangers. You can minimize your chances of getting into a New Haven auto accident by doing these few safety checks before you go and making sure your car is ready for the trip.
If you’re heading out this weekend we wish you a safe trip and hope that you have a wonderful start to the summer season.
