Trucks And SUVs Far More Likely To Cause A New Haven Pedestrian Accident

by
March 26th, 2022

In a recent study conducted by the Insurance Institute For Highway Safety (IIHS) it was found that trucks and SUVs were more likely to cause an injury in an accident with a pedestrian then those driving sedans.  While the study didn’t look specifically at New Haven pedestrian accidents it can be reasonably concluded that this same finding would hold true in the Elm City as a general rule. Let’s look at the study and drill down a bit more on the numbers.  The level of incident and injury is roughly the same when vehicles big and small are involved in crashes at low and high speeds.  For example, a sedan traveling at low speed was found to injure a pedestrian only mildly and the same held true for a driver of an SUV who hit a pedestrian at a low speed.  The same results were found when accidents happened at Read the full article…

March 25th, 2022

Who among us doesn’t like to pet or play with a cute dog that we are around?  There are a lot of people, especially as the weather warms up, that will be out and about and interacting with dogs that may be unfamiliar to us or dogs that we haven’t seen in quite some time.  While interacting with a dog that is unfamiliar to us is not necessarily an indicator that that dog will engage in an activity that could lead to a New Haven dog bite injury, it is a good reason to approach these dogs with care and caution. Dogs, like humans, have emotions and when they can’t express them through words they often express them through actions and one of those actions can be to nip or bite at a human who is approaching the pet.  This is an important thing to remember because if you can Read the full article…

“Safe Distance” Keeps Drivers From Causing A New Haven Bicycle Accident

by
March 18th, 2022

All but six states in the United States have some law on the books that specifies how a driver should pass a cyclist when sharing the road.  These laws are designed to limit the number of accidents between cars and bicycle riders by making sure there is adequate distance between the two, especially when a car is passing a bicycle.  In the state of Connecticut this law has been designed with the hope of limiting New Haven bicycle accidents. Connecticut general statutes read that, “A “safe distance” means not less than three (3) feet when the driver of a vehicle overtakes and passes a person riding a bicycle.”  This is the legal definition to make sure you are following the rules of the road, but you should use your best judgement when you are trying to pass a cyclist.  There are times when, in your judgement, three feet may not Read the full article…

The Three Ps Of Spring Driving That May Cause A New Haven Auto Accident

by
March 15th, 2022

There is nothing more incredible then the first day you are able to roll down the windows in your car and feel the sun on your face as you drive through the streets of the Elm City.  After a long, cold winter you can enjoy the warm air and the bright sun as you drive to your destination.  Beware though because the roads in the spring have a number of different hazards that could bring your dream drive to a crashing halt and cause you to get into a New Haven auto accident. All winter long the roads throughout the city have been freezing and unfreezing.  They have been beaten up by plows as they sweep past to plow away snow and ice.  The streets have been treated with harsh salt, sand and chemicals to keep them free of ice so we can drive on them.  All of this activity Read the full article…
